Biography
Some people love the smell of vinyl. It is an odd thing, but for some it brings back memories of days long gone when music wasn’t printed on odourless, small, silver discs. For others it reminds them of their hobby or profession even: being a DJ. But for both categories this particular smell brings to mind certain songs, tunes, pieces of music and the sensory and experiential recollections attached. The smell brings to life the sound – and every symbolic involvement. A perfect synaesthesia.

Thus, to name a house music label Aroma Records is not such an awkward idea at all, is it? Tracks released on it could be fresh like blossom buttons in Spring, could summon the grilling meat of a barbeque party during the Summer days, could evoke heavy fragrances like fresh fruit ripening in Autumn or could reek of a massive outburst from a smoke machine during an underground party while Winter is raging outside the club…

Celebrating Aroma's 10th anniversary highlights a time in musical history and a chance to look back at the course that Aroma has followed and to look forward to where it's heading. From when we first picked up its odour, high on the aroma, to it’s latest promo… we are as aroused as back then! Raoul Belmans will embark on a worldwide tour to promote Aroma’s 10th birthday kicking off this Spring!

The second single taken out of the forthcoming album "Swirl it up" (release: Feb 12th 2007) is again a beauty after that sunloaded "When I think of you" tune with the sweet vocals of DJ Heather and that oh-so slammin' Derrick Carter remix. Ingrid Hakanson is on duty for the vocal part on "(I'll be a) Freak for you" and this Vancouver based upcoming star succeeded to deliver together with the Swirl People a sweet 80'ies drenched house tune that will stay in your head all day long. Besides the original mix of this, Miles Maeda remixed and warped this song immediately to the late 80'ies with one of the sweetest old school house tracks you'll hear this year that is actually made 20 years later than it was supposed to be. If this remix hasn't already blown your head off - which we hardly doubt - the Swirl People added some bonus action with the peaktime track "Lose you" that is not featured on the new album.

To announce this new album release we are proud to present "When I think of you", with the oh so sweet vocals by DJ Heather, the first single from the new album "Swirl it up" (release scheduled for early 2007). This full on summer tune is bound to be huge since the latin flavoured melody will be hard to resist when you hear it over and over! No one less than Derrick Carter is responsible for one the dirtiest and freshest remixes with his BHQ DC mix. On the flip Swirl People's Dub Cut is already a fav by many top house jocks at the moment and of course we couldn't leave out the Main mix which is the full vocal version. "When i think of you i hear a melody..."

Raoul deejays extensively worldwide and promoters love to see this friendly bloke coming back to their parties every time. He’s played the UK from London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Dublin and throughout Europe as well as Asia, Australia and parts of Africa.

The debut album of his main project Swirl People called “Hi mom, let’s dance” was released on the Scottish label Solemusic that hosts artists like DJ Spinna, Phil Asher, Basement Jaxx, Milton Jackson, a.o. and was highly praised by the U.K. press. Their highly anticipated 2004 follow up album "Special Combo", available on Aroma/News, featured already two heavily rotated singles on national Belgian radio including “Lideloo dow dow” and “We used to party” featuring Chi-town Dj Heather on vocals.

This is just another of many successful projects which no doubt led to his honors from the Belgian Partyguide Awards for best Belgiun House deejay and best National Producer of 2004.
